So You Want Live In a VW Camper Van

The human life is full of adventures and the desire to know the unknown. We venture out from place to place in search of a different lifestyle away from the complexities that modern life has thrown at us. Thus at times getting away from the noise of the cities seems apparent and a simple life beckons us. Or even at times we wish to escape into the wilderness for a time to enjoy the peace and quiet.

The Basic Preparations

Preparing for life in a camper, short or long it may be, requires some thoughts. The basic preparations that you need are:

  • The first and foremost thing is to hire or buy a camper in good condition. This is needed because you would not want to get caught up in the middle of nowhere with the camper broken down. After buying it do a thorough check up of it to find if everything is working properly.
  • The next thing that you should care for is the fuel and there should be plenty of gas in spare bottles. Keep at least one extra tire and check the pressure in each of them.
  • You should take just what is absolutely needed and keep aside the rest of the things. Trying to simplify life requires a lot of sacrifices from modern materials. Like, keeping aside jewelry, music systems, CD players, the large screen TV are some of the luxuries that you need to leave back.
  • The next important thing is to consider fitting the camper with a source of power like a generator or sonar panels. Both are affordable and can provide good power supply.
  • You should fit the camper with a water tank (120-130 lt.), a fridge and an oven with two rings. There must also be a water pump for drawing water from a water source. You must also check the pump, the faucets and not to forget the drainage systems.
The next preparations

Depending on the weather you should also pack some warm clothing and blankets. The more obvious things that you might need are:

  • Rain gear, spare batteries, writing materials, power cords, towels, soaps and detergents, extra bottles etc.
  • Make sure that you have candles, emergency lights, flashlights, around 50 ft of rope etc.
  • You should keep some medicines ready and also some saline salt packets.
  • A set of tools and also a hunting knife is to be kept handy.
  • The most important things to consider are food and water. Make sure that you have packed adequate food to last your time and a tank large enough to load it up with water.
  • Finally, make a check list and see what you have to take with you.
Life in a VW camper van can be real fun and something out of the ordinary and if you come prepared then you can handle situations better. Many people have custom fitted their VW transporter t2 to make them suitable for their camping or for life out in the open.
